Digitalization in social work: MDM for VIA
The non-profit VIA gGmbH stands for inclusion and participation: Every day, employees are on the road to support mentally impaired people in the social space, in their personal environment, as well as in private homes or VIA apartments. With locations in Berlin-Neukölln, Pankow and Treptow-Köpenick and several hundred employees, the company faced a major challenge: How can their many mobile devices be managed centrally so that there is an overview at all times? How can employees be freed from administrative burdens and supported?
This is where our Mobile Device Manager MobiVisor has come into play since May 2022, solving these and other questions for the company.

Mobile Device Management as a helper in daily work
For all institutions that work with the personal data of their clients, data protection – of both clients and employees – is a top priority.
A major problem at VIA Berlin was the lack of an overview of the operating systems used and which version is on the mobile devices. The risk that outdated operating systems could lead to security gaps, which in the worst case could endanger the entire network, was very high here. With the central recording of all devices used in the facility as well as their operating systems, preventive action can now be taken because an update can be performed centrally via the MDM.
MobiVisor not only provides all device information at a glance, but also allows operating system updates to be applied quickly. It is also possible to prevent various security risks by configuring settings on the devices. For example, various Wi-Fi configurations have been made that enable location-based connectivity, or an additional password protection has been installed. The iMessage app was also deactivated for data protection reasons. The over 100 smartphones and tablets could already be configured before unpacking, which saved an immense amount of time.

Remote support and data protection
Remote troubleshooting posed another problem. Without centralized management of the devices, providing support for diverse locations in different Berlin districts was an extensive and time-consuming task. MobiVisor offers a solution to this problem as well: Devices can be viewed remotely and settings and apps can be edited. VIA gGmbH particularly appreciates the diverse configuration options such as Secure Exchange or the Wi-Fi configurations. Secure Exchange provides a secure connection to an e-mail server. The smooth app installations and distributions from a distance are also of great value.
On top of that, data protection was a big issue for VIA gGmbH, as Apple iPads were used in parallel by several people at one location. The Shared iPad function was able to solve the problem – now data protection is no longer an obstacle. Here, multiple profiles can be set up on one device, where users do not have access to each other’s profiles.
